Artist's Statement:
I've always searched for escape through art, and I've always believed that the best art makes a viewer lean in. Differences in the media and size of any work may entirely change, but in crafting a new piece my desire to create an inhabitable space within it that remains the same. I think that art may be used as a new type of pathway, with a painting presenting a sort of window to look through, or an inner landscape to re-discover. In each of my works I try to tempt the gazer into a space floating in and sometimes behind the canvas. Each time they look, I would like the viewer to suspend their disbelief, but even more, I'd like them to want to suspend their disbelief. Whether in watercolor, oil, or diorama sculpture I hope to construct the illusion of gateways one can look through, and to aid in a feeling of surreality a viewer can take along with them afterwards.
