Bill Hayward’s American Memory Project has been on the road since 1948.
Since then, Hayward has collaboratively been creating images of Americans and their memories at sites ranging from: Bunker Hill / Boston National Historic Park, Boston MA; Tuskegee Airmen NHS / Tuskegee Institute NHS, Tuskegee, AL; World Trade Center, NYC; Las Vegas, NV; Little Bighorn Battlefield, Crow Agency, MT; Point of Beginning, East Liverpool, OH; Golden Gate National Park / Alcatraz, San Francisco, CA, and One-Room School House, Big Timber, MT. Gonna Die was made in 2003 to commemorate the anniversary of the 1965 Bloody Sunday voting rights march in Selma, Alabama. Still images from the Project appear in his books: Bad Behavior, Rizzoli International, 2000 and Chasing Dragons, Glitterati 2015.
