I rebel against you oh sorceress so I won’t be found tied head to foot, engaging in the apprenticeship of my calling blindfolded I drink this bitter mouthful and rebel so it might rain a bit of light, a bit of shadow not for me or for you or for those who one day may see me treading hereabouts but for those who will come to look at the color of the sparrow flying in these lands for those who saw me from a window where air came in from the sea for what shall we say about the truths of love which last as long as a dream impossible to trace the sun that undid your days while disguised as a magi in some remote medieval kingdom I made headway like a nomad untroubled by guilt pursuing that word that breaks off like a wisp, nothing more than a wisp. Where Beauty Remains It comes down with the stubborn melody of what we were and douses this thirst outside the night unleashes great constellations I don’t know where to walk to or what abysses or what fruits leash us what will I do if you move off once and for all? arise now beautiful and trick my heart return through the portal of the horizon we contemplated one day and for the good of your eyes be patient guide me wherever beauty remains. The Grand Illusion The rain and snow again the dry trees the winter the will not come back the friends who never came back —will they come back? and weather time promises the song of the rooster the agony of its song in the red season the promises that were never kept love its canticle whirling in the wind the happiness we look for the great love we demand from life my love the freedom so yearned for the desolate city the memories what they promised us what we wanted to be the memory of what we never were for love and lack of love all for a great ideal this is life love this is the time we live through the tenderness of the girl at the train station will not come back love of fable of these days in winter when you’ve seen what my own eyes have seen you won’t see the whole thing dissolved into mist the grand illusion. |
